Today starts the early voting period here in Georgia. We’ll hear the usual, “this is the most important election in our lifetime” speech over and over until November. While it gets old, this election is truly important and not just for the residents of Georgia.
Across the country, there are many candidates for office who are election deniers. The majority of GOP candidates on the ballot for November espouse the belief that the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump. Think of the cognitive dissonance required to believe that Trump lost on the same election where hundreds of Republicans won.
Yet, here we are in 2022 staring at the ballot and there’s a chance that many elections in 2024 will be run by people who believe that very thing. Democracy itself is officially on the ballot and maybe even on life support. Welcome to the world of post-democracy politics.
At this point a vote isn’t just about a party preference, ideology, or your single area of concern. We’ve devolved to where we’re basically voting to determine whether or not we remain a democratic society where freedoms are enjoyed and rights are protected. It’s a simple yes or no vote, either you want democracy or you don’t. Period. One party is actively working to bend our democracy into a country that benefits them above all others. The other party is working to protect democracy for everyone, including the people actively working against them.
I don’t generally make endorsements when it comes to elections. Like religion, I think everyone is entitled to their own beliefs when it comes to politics. However, defending democracy and protecting the Constitution is priority number one for me. For that reason, I implore everyone to ignore the polls and naysayers. Get out and vote against the GOP like your life depends on it. That may very well be the truth for your neighbors.
Republicans don’t even hide their disdain for America anymore. In what universe would Dr. Oz and Herschel Walker be a legitimate candidate for an office of such importance as the US Senate? Do either of them project the confidence they could handle making decisions in life or death situations or have the ability to handle some of America’s intelligence secrets?
I can’t answer for you, but when I hit the voting booth, the choices will be very easy. Will I vote for folks who want to end body autonomy, end social security, and flood our streets with even more guns? Or, will I vote for someone who wants to ensure that my kids have the same rights that I have now? For me, the choice is easy, and I’ll do all I can to protect the rights of everyone. I’m not ready to give up on democracy, only on the party that’s trying to end our democracy.

Supreme Court justices (as a matter of all judge) should have a guard rail when they should recuse themselves. Till now it was honor system and if there was conflict of interest justices took the proper steps. Thomas showed we need strict rules and regulations these justices need to follow. “At this time, the scene is secure and there is no active threat,” police said in a tweet.
St. Louis Mayor Tishaura O. Jones weighed in on the shooting as news of the incident spread.

Criminal trial of the Trump Organization on tax fraud charges set to begin Monday
There’s been so much focus on whether Donald Trump will be indicted for his role in the Jan. 6 insurrection and for stashing top secret documents at his Mar-a-Lago home that it’s easy to overlook that his namesake organization is set to go on trial Monday in a Manhattan courtroom on charges of tax fraud and other crimes.
Trump and his children were not indicted themselves and don’t face any jail time. But the trial could hurt the Trump family business which owns hotels, golf courses, and commercial and residential buildings around the world.
The trial in State Supreme Court will present an embarrassing scene for the former president, pushing to the forefront one of several criminal investigations swirling around him.
This case centers on special perks doled out by the former president’s business, the Trump Organization, which comprises a universe of more than 500 corporate entities. Last year, the district attorney’s office accused two of those entities — The Trump Corporation and Trump Payroll Corp. — of awarding off-the-books benefits like rent-free apartments and leased luxury vehicles to a few top executives who failed to pay taxes on the perks.
As jury selection begins on Monday, the district attorney, Alvin L. Bragg, appears to have the upper hand. The Trump Organization’s 75-year-old chief financial officer, Allen H. Weisselberg, recently pleaded guilty to conspiring with the two corporations to carry out the scheme — and agreed to testify at their trial.”
“Having the company’s top financial officer as your star witness is a prosecutor’s dream,” said Daniel J. Horwitz, a former prosecutor in the district attorney’s office who is now a partner at McLaughlin and Stern, where he defends corporations in white collar crime cases.

If I can stop laughing, I’ll pour myself a nice glass of schadenfreude this evening.
The Reds won the Carabao Cup, FA Cup, finished a solitary point behind eventual champions Manchester City and reached the final of the Champions League where they were beaten by Real Madrid last time round.
Oh – City beat Everton 1-0 late last year when Everton had an appeal for a stone-cold PK turned down. Everton really needed the point at the time and a number of the RS fans (younger ones) wanted Everton relegated. With a draw City would have finished 1 point behind the RS.

34N-HOT WATER? The Georgia Secretary of State’s office announced Friday that it is investigating a pro-Herschel Walker super PAC known for giving away vouchers for gas and groceries — and generating enormous publicity — at multiple events around the state this election cycle.
The 34N22 group’s initiatives first drew attention in June, when a long line of cars formed at a Chevron gas station near downtown Atlanta as the group gave away $25 vouchers to highlight high energy prices.
While some voting rights advocates questioned how it could be allowed in a state that bans groups from distributing food and water to voters in line outside polling places, several election law experts said the policy was permissible so long as the vouchers were given without any condition.
PAC attorney Tippi Cain Burch wrote in a Sept. 30 letter to state officials that 34N22 “did not directly or indirectly condition the distribution of vouchers on any recipient’s agreement to register to vote, to vote for or against any particular candidate, or to vote at all.”

That’ll go to trial about the same time Trump’s lawsuit against CNN goes to trial.
These threats are all designed to fire up the rubes so that he can ask them for money to prosecute the suits. Nothing will ever happen about them.

Trump is dumber than a bag of hammers;
his personality is vanilla blah, he is uptight and frigid,
he is physically fugly.

Details about Iran’s missile program and American intelligence work aimed at China were among the most “highly sensitive” information Donald Trump had stashed at his Mar-a-Lago compound, The Washington Post reported Friday.
Are you sure DOJ some of the info wasn’t sold by the orange buffoon? With the SOB everything is for sale. He needs the money.
Who buries his own dead ex-wife’s ass in his own golf course to save a few bucks.

Apart from Israel, the state that would be most interested in Iran’s missile program is Saudi Arabia.
That’s the same Saudi Arabia that invested $2Bn with Trump’s son-in-law in mid 2021.

Airplane Crashes Into Multi-Family Home In New Hampshire
Both people aboard a single-engine plane were killed when it plummeted out of the sky and into a residential building in Keene, New Hampshire.
Glad our Paul is OK. Sorry to hear the two people in the plane got killed.

Yikes – first time I heard about that.
Keene is the other side of the state from me – almost VT.
