I found this interesting detail today from Quartz that I think is worth sharing.
The 17 people who US president-elect Donald Trump has selected for his cabinet or for posts with cabinet rank have well over $9.5 billion in combined wealth, with several positions still unfilled. This collection of wealth is greater than that of the 43 million least wealthy American households combined—over one third of the 126 million households total in the US.
Maybe it’s just a quirk based on him picking people from within his own social circle or something. I even read a comment in an article about this where someone made the statement (joking, I hope) that they would be less susceptible to being bribed because they’re already wealthy.
This is what we have to look forward to America. This was the choice that we ended up with. This is the team that is going to look out for the everyday man and woman, the forgotten people of America.
IF, and that’s a very big if, they even know those people actually exist, I would be very surprised. I’m not throwing in the towel yet, but when you see the 1% get rid of the middle man, then that gives the appearance that it’s time to get paid. I seriously hope I’m wrong. I guess that one way of draining the swamp is filling it so high that it overflows its border. Then, it’s no longer a swamp. It simply becomes a lake.

Your main point is interesting. From my perspective it is one more twist in a long history of pressure-group warfare, which results from mixed-economy statism.
Quartz’s figures indicate that those 43 million households average about $221 per household in wealth. Is any information available on how they arrived at that figure? That’s less than the $250 price of a very old used car that my wife was given by her uncle about a third of a century ago. Are they counting money in the bank only, not money under the mattress and not any other property? Are a lot of those households deeply enough in debt to have a negative net worth, but leaving the overall average still positive?

I think it’s savings, home ownership, and the like. I’d have to dig further to verify that. Most of the lower economic households have negative wealth because of the lack of savings and renting vs owning.

Can you make the average negative by reducing the number of households involved? If so, how negative can you make it?
Are there any figures that compare income or expenditures instead of wealth?

Yeah, my mother-in-law is from NC and we discuss the situation there from time to time. What they’re doing and how the judicial system responds will say a great deal on the direction of our country.

A couple of weeks ago I did a lot of thinking about the Trump “situation” and tried to some up with a way to describe my feelings about it that wouldn’t be overtly insulting. I finally came up with this: “We need Trump as President to show us what kind of country we really are”

That’s quite apt. I won’t disagree that he displays one of many images people think of when they think of Americans. Maybe this is a good look in a mirror for us.

I’ve got your back and those who feel the same. I don’t know if or how I’ll be affected by any changes done by Republicans, but I will ensure that people don’t suffer from things beyond their control regardless of ideology.

The only place the swamp is draining is into the 1%ers bank accounts. The rest of us be damned. But for the Evangelicals abortion is going down…they may starve but those babies are being saved to starve with them. Damn fools.

What you said about making the swamp a lake puts me in mind of “a rising tide lifts all boats” and whenever I hear that I think of 2 things: that’s only true if you are IN a boat, and tides go up AND down.
And another thing…I see a lot of comments on other forums to the effect that “Trump isn’t draining the swamp, he’s filling it with alligators”. Which makes me think of something my Dad used to say: “When you are up to your ass in alligators, it’s hard to remember your original objective was to drain the swamp” Trump might be about to find that out the hard way.
