Sen. McConnell, why do you hate America and the Constitution?

Sen. McConnell on February 12, 1998:

Full 9:30 video can be found at C-SPANSenator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) spoke on the chamber floor about the Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr and the investigation of President Clinton. He said the allegations of obstructing justice were serious and that the nation was at a critical point. Senator McConnell said Mr. Starr’s inquiry was being hampered by criticism of the independent counsel.

So, if a single count of obstructing justice was serious in 1998, what does 10 counts amount to in 2019?  I went back and researched things to ensure that your oath has not changed, and you’re still under the same oath to protect and defend the Constitution now as you were then.

When will you go to the floor as Senate Majority Leader and proselytize on the danger to the Constitution we face now?  I know you won’t make that speech, and I’ll tell you why I feel that way.  You will not make that speech because it is you, Sen. Mitch McConnell, who is the most direct threat to the US Constitution right now.  Your actions over the past decade is the definition of a domestic threat to the Constitution.  Let’s discuss why.

In 2008, you and others met in secret to conspire to totally obstruct then President-elect Obama and not allow him any achievement.  Nobody can lie and say it didn’t happen as it has been referenced numerous times in multiple publications such as here, here, here, and here.  Now, it’s one thing for the opposition party to stop the majority party from doing harm to the country.  It’s altogether different to block everything as a means of winning elections and returning to majority status.  That was the plan and agenda behind the opposition to Obama plain and simple, and you were one of the architects of that plan.

Your plan worked in part, but you didn’t deny Obama that second term as you wanted to do.  Since he won that second election, you did everything within your power as Minority Leader to stop the Senate from functioning to the point where Reid ended the filibuster on judicial nominees.  Looking back on that, I now see that was part of your shrewd plan as well.  Using Reid’s decision as cover, you have since gone on and eviscerated Senate norms as Majority leader in order to shore up your political power at the expense of the Constitution AND the American people.

When you became Majority Leader, you kicked your plan for power into high gear further eroding the Constitution as the Founders envisioned it to govern America.  Since you were unable to stop Obama from winning that second term, you used your perch in the Senate to deny him the Constitutionally granted powers of his office culminating in denying Merrick Garland a single hearing in regards to his nomination to the Supreme Court.  We know your intent because now you’re using your power grab as a joke on Obama and a means to raise funds for your re-election campaign.  Conservatives are gleeful with this display too as seen by these headlines.

When Russia tampered with our election in 2016, you threatened Obama to keep him from informing America about what was happening.  Based on your actions, I’m going to assume that you did this to ensure you got the president elected that you wanted to fulfill your agenda.  You even said that was your goal in denying Obama that second term.  You won.  You were able to deny Clinton that office and installed your puppet president with the assistance of Russia.  In return, we now see reports of a $200 million Russian investment into an aluminum plant being constructed in Kentucky.  It could all be coincidence, but your actions makes that seem quite implausible.

Now that Robert Mueller has laid out 10 cases of obstruction in which the sitting president has violated his powers under the Constitution, the proper course of action would be to begin a congressional investigation to see if impeachment is warranted.  As we’ve seen, no such investigation is likely to happen because of you and your total obstruction regarding upholding your oath of office as a sitting Senator.  Does your lust for power exceed your duty to office to defend the Constitution?

I will openly admit that I am relieved that Mueller’s investigation did not find any Russian assets or complicit agreement between Trump’s people and Russian intelligence.  I’ll also add that the report did confirm Russian interference as well as what appears to be somewhat coordinated efforts between Russia and Republicans to ensure Trump won the election.  What’s not said is that you were complicit in that effort to get Trump elected in regards to your actions towards the previous president.

America is sitting at a crossroad, and you are a major reason why.  You’ve distorted the Constitution and Senate norms for a decade, and the result is a president who was stopped from decimating his office only because of the people around him were decent enough to uphold their oaths to defend the Constitution.  Now, it’s time for members of Congress to do theirs.

Whether or not they decide to act upon this perceived domestic enemy of the Constitution will determine the future course for America.  If Congress sit silently and allow things to go unchecked, we’re setting a precedent for future actions to be much worse than what we’ve seen thus far.  I didn’t think Trump should be removed by impeachment before, and I still have that opinion now.  Trump needs to go by way of losing an election, not by being removed from office even in light of the multiple instances of obstruction.  McConnell on the other hand, needs to feel the full wrath of the Constitution on him to make him an example to others who will undoubtedly seek those same powers in the future.

Congress, do what you were elected to do, or we, the people, will work hard to get you removed from office at the next available election.

  1. New Complaint Hits ‘Repeat Offender’ Kellyanne Conway For Hatch Act Violations

The watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington has filed a complaint alleging that White House counselor Kellyanne Conway is illegally campaigning while she’s supposed to be working as a government official — again.

Conway touted President Donald Trump while attacking Democratic presidential candidates Joe Biden, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) in her official capacity on the grounds of the White House, the group complained to the U.S. Office of Special Counsel in a letter dated Wednesday.

Conway’s activities violate the Hatch Act, which forbids any federal official from using their position for partisan campaigning, the watchdog group said. The Office of Special Counsel (a government agency that enforces the Hatch Act and has no connection to special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation) warned Conway about previous Hatch Act violations last year.

Conway “violated the Hatch Act in two television interviews” in 2017 with comments about candidates in Alabama’s special election in her “official capacity,” the Office of Special Counsel said in March 2018. The findings were forwarded to President Donald Trump to take “appropriate disciplinary action.” The White House wrist-slapped Conway with a warning.

Sure, I get that but you INVITED them to come and speak. Common courtesy requires that if you attend, then you to sit and listen to INVITED</b guests. I don't recall anyone INVITING the Ingrahamster or any of the Fox News talking head to open up their pieholes about David Hogg or the students at Stoneman Douglas High School. The students at Stoneman Douglas High School simply wanted action to make their school safer and the students had ideas on how to make that happen.

Here’s an under-the-radar Sonny Perdue narrative to keep an eye on.

Employees at the Economic Research Service, one of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s research arms, voted overwhelmingly in favor of unionizing yesterday. The final tally was 138 to 4.

The vote comes as Ag Secretary Perdue moves forward with plans to relocate the agency and another USDA branch outside Washington — despite howls of protest from U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop, D-Ga., scientific groups and a raft of other critics.

We’ll be watching to see how Perdue responds. He’s not exactly a union kind of guy.

Via Twitter, state Sen. Jen Jordan, D-Atlanta, made this plea:

Film industry don’t go anywhere yet. #HB481 will be stopped in courts and will be stopped by the women of this state running for and winning elected office.

  11. Remember that pickup truck, Cobb County sheriff tells Brian Kemp

Governors always appreciate being reminded of their campaign promises. Especially ones that involve large pickup trucks.

Once upon a time – in 2015 to be precise, Dax Lopez, a DeKalb County state court judge, was nominated by President Barack Obama to become Georgia’s first Latino federal judge.

U.S. Sen. David Perdue, R-Ga., torpedoed the nomination, saying he was “uncomfortable” with Lopez’s participation in the Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials, which often speaks up on behalf of illegal immigrants. The senator was helped to that opinion by the likes of D.A. King and Neil Warren.

The former is an anti-illegal immigration activist of some note. The latter is the sheriff of Cobb County, the first in Georgia to ally himself with the 287(g) program that gives his department authority to enforce federal immigration laws.

Last week, we told you that Lopez is on a short list of nominees for a gubernatorial appointment to the Stone Mountain Circuit Superior Court.

Which has prompted a reunion of the anti-immigration activist and the Cobb County sheriff. King’s website has posted a May 8 letter from Warren to Gov. Brian Kemp, expressing his “great concern” that Lopez might get a promotion. Of GALEO, Warren writes:

The fact that they continue to insult our President and those brave men and women patrolling our borders should be enough to remove Judge Lopez from consideration.

Then came the reminder of Kemp’s big pickup truck – “just in case I need to round up criminal illegals and take ‘em home myself.” Wrote Warren:

Governor[,] your campaign was based on “rounding up” the criminals that cross our borders and take advantage of Georgians who are here legally and paying taxes. Certainly, Judge Lopez does not seem to agree with your message. I urge you to stand firm on your campaign commitment and not appoint Judge Lopez to this or any other position….

      https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/who-wants-to-be-a-senator-not-these-high-profile-democrats/

in our polarized era, the force that is discouraging the other Senate runs — presidential coattails — could actually boost Democratic candidates, depending on how the presidential race goes. In at least three of these GOP-leaning seats — Arizona, Iowa and North Carolina — Democrats have won major races in recent years. While this trio of states leans Republican, they are not out of reach for a Democratic presidential contender, who could win them and help carry down-ballot Democrats over the finish line. Democrat Kyrsten Sinema won Arizona’s high-turnout 2018 Senate race. In Iowa, Democrats took over one statewide office from Republicans in 2018 (and Barack Obama carried it in 2008 and 2012). And North Carolina elected a Democratic governor (and Stein) in 2016 (plus Obama won there in 2008).

The point is that perceived recruitment failures in a handful of states this far from November 2020 do not necessarily sound the death knell for Democrats’ overall chances of taking back the Senate

But I dunno. That^^ sounds pretty Pollyanna to me. Permission granted to panic.

So Trumps approval is 37%. 45% of those are women. That comes to approximately 17% of the total population. Women make up 51% about of the total population. Therefore it comes to approximately 9% of all American women.
So 42% of the women are in wait and see mode, so far away from the election.
Also it means 9% of the women support Trump and the rest just hate him.
It also means Trump is finished in 2020. LOL

“They basically got her in a booth and she couldn’t move, and one was showing her a porno video and Kannady supposedly feeling up her leg when all this was going on,” Gerhart explained.

      • Drilling into what is revealed about the bill in the linked story, it’s not “bad” bad necessarily. It would mean making information available to more agencies that, apparently, aren’t receiving it as a matter of course. On the face of it I wouldn’t necessarily object if I were a Senator and looking to wheel-and-deal a bit and that’s probably what Warner was doing.

But as a politician I think it is always bad to feed the Stupids this notion that there are vast untapped amounts of Waste-Fraud-‘Byoose that would make us all So Much Better Off if we could just root it out. Truth is it usually costs money to hunt down and retrieve such low level mis-funding and the RoI often is barely worth it. I’d assume that’s almost certainly the case here although a smarter person can prove me wrong.

(Which BTW is NOT the case with the IRS–we have provable statistical info that shows we reap yuge rewards auditing problematic individual returns if you allocate the manpower properly. but for years now we’ve been cutting back that capability and they’ve been stuck hitting low-hanging fruit, often from The Poors who made some easily detected error in reporting what they were owed via an EIC. But, I digress.)

My default is to ask “well how horribly are Starbucks staffers paid/treated” and it’s still worth wondering if they attract the kind of staff that can handle stuff like this with a modicum of training. A little Googling indicates that salaried assistant managers make an average of 42K/year–if the benefits are decent, I guess that’s not terrible for that service industry–but lowlier shift managers snag between eight (!) and nineteen bucks an hour.

I’m going to go out on a limb and imagine it might’ve been a lowlier sort responsible for this idiocy. And yes, you’d think that a fellow employee or three would’ve said “WTF are you doing?” instead of playing along.

I laughed. Nancy had it coming. That said:

We had an opportunity to leverage anti-Pelosi fervor among some newly-elected HoRs way back in November and get ourselves a different Speaker. Who would’ve been (almost certainly) more cooperative, moderate, and measured, so as not to upset a relatively tiny minority of voters who might’ve crossed over in a relatively tiny number of districts to help elect some Blue Doggish Dems in 2018. I think we were right to keep her at the helm and no, I don’t think there was anyone more progressive/confrontational who was going to unseat her.

Nancy has forgotten more about taking down formidable assholes in her midst than anyone reading this has ever learned. I’m not saying she’s playing Eleventh Dimension Chess and we damn dirty apes just can’t fathom what her next awesome move is going to be; but I am saying she’s always done a pretty good job of leveraging the resources at her disposal skillfully and I expect she’ll do so in 2019.

I mean, she knows where the votes are. She’s always known that. She might’ve heard from 200 panicked HoRs saying “PLEASE DON’T MAKE US GO OUT ON A LIMB PLEASE I BEG YOU I HAVE A FAMBLY!!” or some shit.

  46. At first glance this seems like good news, although my gut tells me that a $28K settlement isn’t all that great.

If nothing else it serves as a reminder that when/if sane people are back in charge of this country, LGBTQ rights will need to be legislated and yes, a SCOTUS will need to be packed to ensure that their rights stick, because we all know these Five Stooges would remove them in a heartbeat. The Roberts court would NEVER, EVER recognize trans people’s humanity at the expense of the oligarchy’s cobbled-together coalition of bigots and political donors.

A transgender Iowa State University employee will be paid nearly $28,000 to settle a claim that the school discriminated against her because its health insurance policy failed to cover reassignment surgery and other associated care..

Elyn Fritz-Waters, 34, was assigned male at birth. She was diagnosed with gender dysphoria in 2016, legally changed her first name and was shortly thereafter denied care by her employee health insurance though ISU.

Fritz-Waters, who was hired by ISU in 2010 and worked as an assistant scientist, was granted a “right-to-sue” by the Iowa Civil Rights Commission in 2017.

ISU’s health insurance policy specifically issued a blanket prohibition against transgender care, according to a lawsuit Fritz-Waters filed last year. She argued the blanket prohibition is discriminatory because it denied her equal access to health care benefits based on her sex and gender identity, specifically because she is transgender. She resigned from ISU in February 2017.
